Cassava Varieties in India

Indian’s high yielding cassava varieties are in large part due to the Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) established in 1963 to research tropical tuber crops, with main emphasis on cassava. Agricultural Universities of Kerala (KAU) and Tamil Nadu (TNAU), and the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department has resulted in the release of several other cassava varieties with much shorter crop durations. Below is a summary of such achievements and those widely used today for food and industrial purposes.
